MISSION

Hi, I’m Beaver. As a Philadelphia native, queer educator, and theatre artist with professional experiences in various industries, I am dedicated to teaching and leading in spaces that support creativity, community, and marginalized individuals. I have an undying alligance with the city of Philadelphia and a passion for everything bagels with cream cheese.

SPECIALITIES

  • For the past eight years, I have served as an English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Theatre teacher for grades 7-12 in the School District of Philadelphia. I am skilled and practiced in curriculum writing and development, data analysis, evaluation, restorative justice practices, social-emotional learning, and professional development facilitation. In my time with the school district, 80% or more of students made over 10 months of reading growth in an academic year. My passion, however, lies in the opportunities I have had to connect with students about their interests and identities. In my time as an educator, I have run several after-school arts programs, advised the Gender-Sexuality Alliance, directed the Fall Play and Spring Musical, supported the Student Council and Youth Court, and assisted with various tutoring and homework help programs. I strive to create spaces where youth feel comfortable to be themselves, take risks, follow their dreams, and successfully work through challenges.

  • As a Teaching Artist and Stage Manager, I am skilled in the organizational techniques that it required to carry out large-scale and intricate artistry. My strengths as a theatre artist include creating a collaborative and warm environment, working through interpersonal conflict, and using organization to remain on track to meet production deadlines. I am committed to engaging in the arts with youth as a means for self-expression and discovery and am dedicated to work that represents marginalized individuals, particularly new work.
