Mommy’s Khimar - Stage Manager & Technical Director

“As always, the team was received incredibly well, and the story was compelling. Thank you for putting on a thought-provoking production for our students.

“I have a student who has never sat still for more than a few minutes during class. He was completely transfixed.”

“It’s amazing how you engaged even our non-native English speakers.”

Mommy’s Khimar is among the projects of which I am most proud. Adapted from the storybook Mommy’s Khimar by Philadelphia’s Germantown resident Jamilah Tompkins-Bigelow, Enchantment produced a 30-minute stage adaptation that follows a young girl who manages her frustration with her younger brother by playing with her mother’s colorful headscarves. I contributed to the project from its inception, developing choreography and shaping the narrative around the original text to enhance engagement and accessibility for young audiences.

As Stage Manager and Technical Director for the production, I partnered closely with Enchantment to coordinate all technical aspects and rehearsal logistics, supporting a successful eight-week run across the Philadelphia area. In order to ensure consistency across cast and performances, I worked with our director to write the play’s scenario, since Enchainment work is often all Choreographed dance theater, set to one track.
